CityUHK Researchers Develop Innovative Fabrication Technique for Perovskite Solar Cells

Breakthrough Innovations: City University of Hong Kong researchers introduced two key innovations in perovskite solar cells—simplified manufacturing by integrating hole-selective materials and replacing organic layers with an inorganic tin oxide (SnO2) electron transport layer.

Improved Stability: Using the atomic layer deposition (ALD) method, the team created an oxygen-deficient tin oxide layer, enhancing the operational stability and efficiency of the cells.

Efficiency Gains: The newly developed cell achieved over 25% power conversion efficiency and maintained 95% of its efficiency after 2,000 hours of operation.

Commercialization Potential: This simplified architecture could significantly reduce production costs and enhance commercial viability, with potential large-scale application in solar energy systems within five years.

Collaborative Effort: The research involved collaboration with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Imperial College London.
