India’s Solar Module Manufacturing Capacity Crosses 60 GW with New ALMM List

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) released an updated Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for solar modules, expanding India’s domestic manufacturing capacity to 60.4 GW.

New entries in the ALMM include capacities from First Solar (572 MW) and Hexatron Industries (203 MW), with additional expansions from companies like Avaada Electro (611 MW) and Vikram Solar (309 MW).

Aatmanirbhar Solar saw a reduction in its listed capacity from 100 MW to 93 MW.

The ALMM policy mandates using only listed domestic manufacturers for government solar projects, reducing dependency on foreign, particularly Chinese, imports.

The list now includes minimum efficiency standards for various project scales and permits Cadmium-Tellurium thin film modules, benefiting companies like First Solar.
