- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated five solar parks as part of Maharashtra’s 16,000MW decentralized solar power generation project during his visit to Washim district.
- These projects are part of the Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0), modeled after the Central government’s PM Kusum Yojana, aiming to provide affordable daytime power for irrigation to farmers.
- The total development of 9,200MW solar projects is underway and will be completed by September 2025, while the entire 16,000MW project is expected to finish by March 2026.
- With an estimated investment of Rs 65,000 crore, this initiative will generate 50,000 rural jobs and reduce electricity costs to Rs 3 per unit from Rs 8.50, resulting in Rs 10,000 crore annual savings and reducing subsidies.
